AKRON, Ohio - Preparations for the World Golf Championships Bridgestone Invitational are in full swing at Firestone Country Club in Akron.

Each year, more than 1,000 adult and 100 junior volunteers take part in the event, serving on one of a number of committees, including shuttle transportation, parking, corporate hospitality, emergency action, concessions and more.

Volunteers are the backbone of the tournament, making sure the 34 committees are filled to ensure the event is an annual success.

The course is getting the final touches put on it, signs are being posted for the event and much more.

Golfers will take to Firestone's South Course for the first round of the PGA event on Thursday morning, one of the most iconic tracks on the tour.

Some of the top names in golf, including Tiger Woods, will be there to compete for the title.

The WGC Bridgestone Invitational generates $21 million in business for the northeast Ohio economy.
