AKRON, Ohio - Opening statements are expected to begin Wednesday for a mother on trial for the death of her toddler son.
According to Summit County court workers, the trial began Monday for Heather Lerch, 21. Opening statements are scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Lerch is on trial for the methamphetamine poisoning death of her toddler son, 17-month-old Patrick Nicholas Lerch.
According to police, the toddler was found unresponsive in a drug house on Feb. 26. He later died at a local hospital.
The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death to be methamphetamine poisoning during a period of neglect and abuse.
Lerch was charged with murder, involuntary manslaughter, complicity to commit murder and other drug offenses.
