CLEVELAND - The funeral service for Akron talk show host Howie Chizek will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on June 21 at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, located at 1985 S. Taylor Rd. in Cleveland Heights.
The 100.1 FM "Talk of Akron" radio personality was silenced on Saturday. He turned 65 on June 9 and died from a heart attack a week later while on a trip in Florida.
Chizek worked at WNIR for 38 years and was the longest running no-guest talk show host in the U.S., according to published reports.
Northeast Ohio was home to Chizek, and many Clevelanders remember him fondly as the voice of the Cavaliers in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.
"Howie Chizek's calls of Cavs games at the Richfield Coliseum will forever be a part of some of the most memorable times in franchise history," the organization said in a news release. "Fans will always remember his trademark bellow of 'Mark Price for threeee' that would raise the roof on The Coliseum and became the echo for three point shots on basketball courts throughout the region."
Following Chizek's memorial, a private burial will take place.
WNIR said the station will broadcast Chizek's service at 7 p.m. on June 21. You can also listen to his service online at www.wnir.com.
