AKRON, Ohio - A group of Mary Kay consultants from northeast Ohio are trying to spread a little holiday cheer by delivering gift sets to local nursing home residents.

They call it Adopt A Grandparent and the way it works is the consultants sell the gift sets at a reduced price to local businesses and the general public.

Once the basket has been purchased, the consultants will wrap the baskets and deliver them to local nursing home residents in Summit, Stark and Portage counties.

Each gift set consists of two full-sized products, a fragrance-free hand cream and foot lotion. The gift sets cost $15 each and will be wrapped and hand delivered by the Mary Kay consultants to the nursing home residents.

In the first three years, Adopt A Grandparent has delivered over 600 gift sets to residents of area nursing homes with a goal of 2,000 for this year.

According to Erin Maroon, a Mary Kay consultant, they make less than 85 cents on each set and they will only go to a nursing home if they know they can supply every resident with a gift set.

If you would like to participate in Adopt A Grandparent contact Erin Maroon erinmaroon@marykay.com or 330-904-0386 the drive ends on Dec. 21.
