AKRON, Ohio - Summit County sheriff's deputies say the man who robbed the First Merit on South Arlington Street crashed his car before trying to carjack another.
It happened just after 9 a.m. Tuesday in Coventry Township. A man wearing a Cleveland Browns jacket and a baseball hat with sunglasses leaned over the counter, told the teller he had a gun and demanded cash.
Witnesses say he took off in a gold Dodge Intrepid and when getting into the car, a dye-pack exploded.
Roughly 30 minutes later, deputies found the vehicle at the corner of Arlington Street and Archwood Avenue in Akron. But when they tried to stop him, he took off, crashing shortly after.
Darrell Connell, 26, of Green, then tried to flee on foot and carjack another vehicle. That's when he was caught by the deputies.
Connell was arrested for aggravated robbery and felonious assault for fighting with the deputies.
The bank robbery remains under investigation.
