Drunk driver causes three-vehicle crash in North Canton, police still searching for other passenger

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -

Police are still searching for a man after a drunk driver caused a three-vehicle crash in North Canton, leaving one person injured and traffic backed up for an hour.

The North Canton Police and Fire Departments responded to the crash involving three vehicles in the 1400 block of North Main Street around 6:50 p.m. Sunday.

The crash caused the closing of a section of North Main Street between Applegrove Street and Wilbur Drive from 6:55 p.m. until 7:49 p.m.

According to witnesses, a Red Ford Mustang driven by 32-year-old James Henning of North Canton, was reportedly driving recklessly in the parking lot of the K-Mart located at 1447 North Main Street.

The mustang exited the lot onto North Main Street at the traffic light where it struck a Blue Chevy Silverado truck. The truck was then pushed into a Silver Kia Optima. The crash caused the airbags in both the Mustang and the Optima to deploy.

A 47-year-old female passenger from the Chevy truck was transported to Mercy Hospital for reported injuries.

Henning was arrested at the scene, taken to Aultman hospital for examination and the booked at the Stark County Jail. He has been charged with operation without reasonable control and operating a vehicle while under the influence

Witnesses also reported a passenger in the Mustang fled the scene on foot. This person was described as a white male, wearing blue jean shorts and a gray bandanna.
