GREEN, Ohio - A 23-month-old child died early Thursday morning at Akron Children's Hospital after suffering head injuries, and police said the child's baby sitter may have been responsible.

The Summit County Medical Examiner and the Summit County Sheriff's Department are now investigating the death of Aaliyah Ali.

Paramedics were called to the Briarwood Apartments in Green, Ohio around12:30 a.m. Tuesday. Tiffani Calise, 21, was babysitting her friend's 23-month-old daughter at the time, and called 911 to report an unresponsive child.

"The babysitter told our deputies that she left the victim in the tub in just a little bit of water while she went to the closet to get something," Summit County Sheriff Inspector William Holland said."While she was gone, she heard a noise. When she returned, the baby was limp in the tub."

Paramedics rushed the child to Akron Children's Hospital while investigators notified the mother of the child. They put together a report about four hours later when they received a call from the hospital.

"The injuries we see on the child don't exactly match up with the story that was given to the deputies," Holland said. "That's when we kind of ramped up our investigation at that point. The baby had some bleeding on the skull and a head injury."

Calise was arrested Wednesday and charged with felony child endangering, for now.

"If the child's condition worsens, there could be more charges filed," Holland said.

Despite medical treatment, Aaliyah was later pronounced dead at 1:57 a.m. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

Calise has a 2-year-old daughter who was with her when the incident happened. That child was removed and placed in the custody of family members.

Calise appeared in court on Thursday and her bond was set at $500,000. A preliminary hearing has been set for Wednesday at 1 p.m. The prosecutor told NewsChannel5 that additional charges are pending.
