AKRON, Ohio - A 5-month-old girl from Akron died after she was involved in a car accident where she wasn’t restrained, the coroner’s office said.

The crash happened Sunday at about 4 a.m. at the intersection of Copley Road and Mercer Avenue in Akron.

Akron police said the driver of a Buick LeSabre headed west on Copley attempted to make a left turn onto Mercer when a Chevy Impala headed east on Copley hit the Buick.

Officers said the people inside the Impala fled the scene after the accident, but a passenger was later located and taken to the hospital.

Police said an infant, Chyna Kidd, was found unrestrained in the back seat of the car. Officers performed CPR on her until paramedics arrived at the scene. She was transported to Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron, where she later died from her injuries.

The driver of the Buick was transported to Akron General Medical Center, but there is no word on that person’s condition.

The Summit County Coroner's Office is conducting an autopsy.
