AKRON, Ohio - "Boos" filled the Akron Aeros stadium as Mayor, Don Plusquellic paid tribute to the now gold medalists and NBA champion, LeBron James.

The NBA MVP returned to his hometown to receive the special award and celebrate his foundation's first anniversary of the "Wheels for Education" program, which serves to provide third graders with the support and mentors they need to succeed.

Despite the "booing," James said Sunday was about the kids.

"That's what I'm mainly here for and that's why I'm excited to be here. You know, our future right here [gesturing towards the kids] they're gonna make sure that not only Akron but our world be a better place as well."

Stephanie Cook attended with her daughter and said, "It's very exciting especially for the kids because they all look up to LeBron. They wanna meet him."

Cook's daughter is in the "Wheels for Education" program and described her work so far as reading and learning to use the computer.

"It's excellent," the third grader said. Cook said it will only prepare her daughter for this new school year, "They had all the kids make a promise to read books, stay in school ... so it's a positive thing."

This year, the foundation added Lauren and the rest of the city's incoming third graders to the program, which means they now have more than 530 third and fourth graders all working to achieve the same goals in "Wheels for Education."

While talking with reporters, James didn't offer any comments on his own about the recent lawsuits dropped involving his foundation. As for the "boo's" parents heard on the field, Kindra Yeager said who cares.

"As long as he's here for the kids. It's nice how he does it for the kids. That's all that matters."

The students that completed their summer goal list got to take home a bicycle with a helmet, making the it literally a wheels for education program.
