PERRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio - The body of a local Marine who was killed in Afghanistan will return home Thursday.

A plane carrying U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Daniel J. Patron will fly into the Akron-Canton Airport at about 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Sgt. Patron, 26, was killed in Afghanistan while trying to defuse a roadside bomb last week.

He will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, the same cemetery that serves as the final resting place for his cousin, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Kevin J. Kessler., 32, from East Canton who was killed in Afghanistan in August 2010, according to the Canton Repository.

Calling hours for Sgt. Patron will be held at the Paquelet Funeral Home, 1100 Wales Road Ne in Massillon, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday.

The funeral mass for Sgt. Patron will take place at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 166 Bordner Ave. SW in Canton, at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

Sgt. Patron is a 2003 graduate of Perry High School. He served two tours of duty in Iraq. His second tour of duty was supposed to end last month, but he extended his service and was due home in November.
