AKRON, Ohio - If approved, bill would allow University of Akron to trade free tuition for vacant high school property
The University of Akron plans to offer full tuition scholarships to eligible Akron Public School students. But a bill needs to be approved first.
The deal would allow the university to trade free tuition for a vacant city high school building.
Lawmakers still have to approve the bill that would require public school districts planning to sell a building to offer it first to a state university.
In Akron's case, they want Central Hower High School.
More than 100 Akron High School students could be eligible for free tuition in 2013 if the proposal is approved.
