AKRON, Ohio - The bicycle elves strike again in northeast Ohio.
An organization that makes one unannounced visit every year to give away about 1,000 new bikes descended on an Akron neighborhood Sunday afternoon. The group, Elves and More Northeast Ohio, arrived in donated tractor-trailers, complete with police and fire truck escorts.
It didn't take long for the word to spread once the convoy arrived at about 10:15 a.m.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that the group adopts a different Akron neighborhood each year -- but doesn't announce ahead of time where the bikes will show up.
About 350 volunteers gathered a week ago and assembled the bikes in a donated warehouse. About 60 volunteers handed them out.
It's the seventh year for the giveaway in Akron.
