AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Police Department is investigating two separate shootings that left two men dead late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. The first homicide occurred in the 300 block of Howe Street, just after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Akron detectives said that 57-year-old Michael Downing was found shot to death sitting in a car in a driveway of a home. Neighbors told NewChannel5 that they heard multiple gunshots in the area.

Police have not released any more information in this case.

The second homicide occurred just after 1:15 a.m. at the Irisdale Apartments off Allyn Street. In this case, detectives said that police were dispatched for shots fired and when they arrived they found a male in a parking lot with multiple gun shot wounds.

The man, whom police have not yet identified, was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The apartment complex is primarily used by University of Akron students, but it is unknown if the victim is this case was a student.
