AKRON, Ohio - You'll never believe what Bill Ullom, the founder of Vadxx Energy, can do with your trash.
"Light, sweat crude oil. It's the most valuable crude oil in the world," Ullom said. "Made from waste plastics that you recycle on your curb every week."
Ullom takes anything made from oil and reverses the process. Major recyclers pick most of the bottles and milk jugs out of the trash, leaving the rest for landfills or to factories in China. But Ullom takes the scraps and converts them into one of the world's most utilized commodities.
"We are taking materials and breaking them down into their molecular component parts," Ullom said. "Molecules are science. But molecules can be business."
And business is good. So good, the City of Akron teamed up with recycling giant Greenstar and Vadxx Energy to create 50 jobs in the next few months.
