AKRON, Ohio - A man is dead after crashing off the East Market Street bridge over Kelly Avenue in Akron just after 1 a.m. Tuesday.
According to Akron police, the driver of a 1994 Dodge Ram, 34-year-old Michael Lloyd, was not wearing a seatbelt and went off the right side of East Market Street, striking a light pole and then flying 65 feet through the air before hitting the embankment on the other side of the bridge.
The van was airborne across all four lanes of Kelly Avenue before hitting the embankment.
No other cars were involved, according to police.
The Summit County Medical Examiner pronounced the man dead at the scene.
East Market Street and Kelly Avenue have reopened after being closed due to an investigation of the crash.
Authorities said alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash
