CANTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Dash cam video was released of an alleged drunk driver crashing into an Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser.

The accident happened shortly before 9 p.m. on Jan. 18 at the intersection of Cleveland Avenue SE and 48th Street SE in Canton Township.

Authorities said that Daniel James 44, didn't yield when turning onto 48th Street and hit Sgt. David Garber's cruiser.

The wreck caused the sergeant to spin around, hit a curb and concrete footer at a gas station before coming to a rest facing southbound in the middle of the road. Both vehicles were heavily damaged and were towed from the scene.

James was taken to Aultman Hospital for minor injuries. Sgt. Garber was also taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and released. Garber, 34, is an 11-year veteran of the force.

James was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence and has a jury trial set for Feb. 28 in front of Judge John Poulos in Canton Municipal Court.
