AKRON, Ohio - After nine days of testimony in the trial of 17-year-old Brogan Rafferty , the jury started deliberating the case.
Rafferty is accused in the murder of three men and the shooting of another after they responded to a fake craigslist ad for a farm job in Noble County.
During closing arguments, assistant prosecutor Jon Baumoel told the jury that the fact that Richard Beasley was the murderer does not get Brogan Rafferty off the hook. Baumoel said Rafferty knew those men were going to die. He asked the jury to use their common sense.
Defense attorney John Alexander said Brogan was a 16 year old child. Alexander asked the jury to listen to Rafferty's own words, what happened to those men was evil and he didn't want to be a part of it.
Rafferty took the stand in his own defense. Rafferty said he feared for his life and the life of his family if he didn't go along with Richard Beasley's wishes. Beasley is accused of being the master mind in the killings.
Paul Scarsella wrapped up closing arguments for the prosecution. Scarsella called Richard Beasley the teacher and said Brogan Rafferty was his student.
The bodies of David Pauley and Ralph Geiger were found in shallow graves in a wooded area in Noble County. Tim Kern's body was also found in a shallow grave in a wooded area near Rolling Acres Mall in Akron. Another man, Scott Davis, was shot but escaped and hid in the woods in Noble County before finding a home and calling police.
If found guilty, Rafferty could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Beasley's trial is scheduled for January 2013.
