AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred on North Howard Street near Ridge Street as the victims were walking from the Interbelt Night Club early Tuesday morning.
According to police, the three victims were walking from the nightclub to their car when two men approached them with guns drawn and demanded their belongings and car keys. The victims turned over their keys and belongings then the suspects stole their car.
Officers responding to the area spotted the car leaving the area and were able to catch up with it in the area of Home and Evans Avenues.
Akron officers chased the car a short distance to Blanding Avenue where the suspects crashed the car into another car parked in a driveway. Three suspects then ran on foot from the car. Two suspects were caught very quickly.
Police said they are still looking for the third suspect who jumped from the stolen car. They said they believe that suspect was run over by the stolen car when he jumped from the moving car to run from police and may have a leg injury.
A second crash occurred on Blanding Avenue when an SUV crashed into a parked truck less than 200 feet from where the suspects crashed the stolen car. That person was arrested.
Officers are not sure if the SUV was involved in the original robbery or if it was a completely unrelated crash.
The victims were uninjured in the robbery and were brought to the scene of the crash to retrieve items from their car.
Two of the three people arrested at the scene were juveniles and the third was 22 years old, according to police.
