AKRON, Ohio - Thousands of dollars in scholarships were up for grabs by the top finishers in the All-American Soap Box Derby in northeast Ohio.
Saturday's championship wrapped up the 75th running of the event.
More than 400 racers arrived in Akron earlier this week for a series of events, including a parents' race and a family night.
Event organizers have been working to rebuild the popularity of the nonprofit organization and its financial footing.
They said a new focus on education and new sponsors and events may help revitalize the derby.
They've also created a sort of museum of old derby cars and other memorabilia, hoping it will help build public interest.
The following were the winners of their divisions:
RALLY STOCK - 10-year-old Logan Maves of Madison, Wisconsin.
RALLY SUPER STOCK- 14-year-old Nick Zimmerman of Cloverdale, Indiana.
RALLY MASTERS- 14-year-old Freddy Atchison of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
LOCAL STOCK- 12-year-old Alexander Khachigian of Tuolumne, California.
LOCAL SUPER STOCK- 17-year-old Kallie Myers of St. Clairsville, Ohio.
LOCAL MASTERS- 12-year-old Maddie Minch of Cleveland, Ohio.
ULTIMATE SPEED- 22-year-old Laura Overmyer of Oregon, Illinois.
