AKRON, Ohio - Two men have been charged in connection with the murder and robbery of a shoe salesman.

Akron police said 19-year-old Xzaiver Penwell and 21-year-old De Anthony Smith shot 43-year-old Adulmahdi Al-Garawi in the chest, while he was selling shoes at the intersection of Boone and Buckingham streets on April 22. Penwell and Smith then stole Al-Garawi’s shoes, car and other items, officers said.

Al-Garawi’s car was found later that day on Hardesty Boulevard.

Smith turned himself into Akron police late Wednesday night. His attorney was with him. Officers said Penwell was already in the Summit County Jail on unrelated charges. Both have been charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery.

No hearing date for the two has been released.
