CLEVELAND - An RTA rapid train derailed at the East 55th station early Friday morning, and it may cause some delays during the morning rush hour. The East 55th station closed for a short time, but it has since reopened.
RTA is working to determine the cause of the problem, but no people were injured, the company said in a statement Friday morning.
According to passenger Scott Thomas, the train’s operator appeared to miss a signal and then attempted to back up the track. The train then derailed as it was in reverse, Thomas said.
Passengers may experience some delays if they travel through the station on East 55th. No trains are using the track where the incident occurred, as crews continue to work on the scene, RTA said.
After the derailment, the train was sitting across three sets of tracks, but workers have since put it back on track and removed it from the area.
