LORAIN, Ohio - A memorial service and dinner takes place for the Elyria man killed by a bear at a local exotic animal sanctuary.
Brent Kandra, 24, was killed by a bear he cared for at the wild animal sanctuary in Columbia Station.
Kandra’s memorial will take place at the Gargus Catering and Banquet Center, 1969 North Ridge Rd. in Lorain, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Thursday.
The property and animals where Kandra was killed are owned by Sam Mazzola; he and the animal farm are under investigation. The bear was euthanized as Kandra’s family watched.
After the incident, the Humane Society asked Ohio Governor Ted Strickland to ban wild animals as pets.
