PORT CLINTON, Ohio - The Humane Society of Ottawa County is seeking foster homes for 13 rescued beagles.

Port Clinton police and the Humane Society seized the dogs from a foreclosed home in the 500 block of W. Second Street on Jan 23.

When officers arrived they were told there were six dogs, but found 13 to be living in very poor conditions. The floors of the home were covered in urine and feces, according to Denny Hammond of the Humane Society.

The owners moved out of the home in the middle of summer, but were still coming to the foreclosed home to feed the dogs and bring them water, according to Hammond.

The owners are facing 13 counts of animal cruelty.

The Humane Society of Ottawa County only has 12 kennels and they are currently housing 25 dogs.

The Humane Society is currently seeking foster homes for the beagles. They are not available for adoption at this time. The other 12 dogs the Humane Society is currently housing are available for adoption.

If you are interested in becoming a foster family to a beagle or adopting another dog, please call the Humane Society of Ottawa County at 419-734-5191.
