BEDFORD HEIGHTS, Ohio - Monday is the busiest day of the year for Federal Express, as the shipping giant will transport 19 million packages nationwide.
Workers have been on the job at the FedEx facility in Bedford Heights since before sunrise. In fact, this could prove to be the busiest day ever for Fed Ex. The company expects the package volume today to exceed last year's number by ten percent.
FedEx says the surge in online sales during the holiday season accounts for the increase. Many orders made on Black Friday are shipped, as are orders made with this being Green Monday, another significant holiday shopping day. Many of those sales are made online, fueling the shipping rush.
If you have not shipped your holiday packages, yet, you still have time to get them to their destination before Christmas. With FedEx, you can still ship overnight until Dec. 22. UPS has a next-day air deadline of Dec. 21, as does the U.S. Postal Service for express mail.
