Silver Spring, MD - The FDA said it has approved a new flu vaccine that's made without eggs or the influenza virus.
The vaccine called Flublok is permitted for use in people 18 to 49 years of age to prevent seasonal flu.
The agency said the vaccine was created using DNA technology and an insect virus.
The FDA said the new technology offers the potential for faster start-up of the vaccine manufacturing process in the event of a pandemic.
Possible side effects include headache, fatigue and muscle aches.
These symptoms are also typical for conventional vaccines.
