CLEVELAND - Thinking about what you can get your sweetie for Valentine's Day. Maybe a nice bottle of red wine, a little chocolate?

Doctors say those are both excellent ideas, because not only are they great gifts they are also great for the heart. On Valentine's Day there's no better way to show your loved one you care, than by giving them a gift that's good for their health.

Over the past few years, studies have shown that chocolate, especially dark chocolate, is good for the heart.

A recent British study found that people who consumed more chocolate were 29 percent less likely to have a stroke. The study included all types of chocolate including dark and milk chocolate, as well as chocolate bars, drinks, cookies and desserts.

Previous studies have targeted dark chocolate as more beneficial because it contains more antioxidants than milk chocolate. Antioxidants are known to reduce blood pressure and help ward off type 2 diabetes.

As for wine, make it red if you want to protect the heart. Studies have shown it's good for your circulation, possibly by reducing the risk of blood clots.

Red wine contains Resveratrol, a chemical that occurs naturally in the grape skins that make up red wine. Scientists now think this chemical could boost your metabolism, which could help you lose weight.

The key, doctors say, is moderation. Both candy and red wine are high in calories which can lead to obesity and diabetes. So remember, when giving to your Valentine, a little love, goes a long way.
