CLEVELAND - The Ohio Department of Education has released its district and school report cards for the 2009-2010 school year.

Statewide, 81 school districts earned the honor of being named excellent with distinction, including several schools in Cuyahoga County.

The Cleveland Metropolitan School District received the designation of continuous improvement, which is better than then the academic watch it received last year.

"We will build upon this momentum as we enter our first year of transformation, knowing that this accomplishment is merely a point, not a destination, on our path to higher student achievement," said Cleveland Schools CEO Dr. Eugene Sanders, in a news release on Friday.

The district’s academic transformation plan calls for each of the schools in the district to earn the ranking of continuous improvement by 2015.

School designations are reached by combing numerous factors like the number of indicators met, the performance index score and the adequate yearly progress.
