WASHINGTON - A Medina girl and a Mentor boy were eliminated in Round Five of the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday.

They both heard the dreaded 'ding' of the head judge's bell.

Mentor 12-year-old Vishnu Nistala spelled araphorostic incorrectly

Sunny Levine, a 13-year-old from Medina, spelled polos incorrectly.

In Round Four, she was given the word bacitracin, defined as “an antibiotic obtained from the bacterium Bacillus subtilis, used topically for skin and eye infections.”

Levine knew her word and replied with “sweet.”

Nistala fared well with his fourth round word, cataphract.

Nistala correctly spelled the word, meaning a "suit of armor for the whole body."

Levine and Nistala continue on in the semifinals, which are single elimination for a misspelling.

You can track the progress of the remaining spellers at http://www.newsnet5.com/spellingbee

Those that advance through the semifinals move on to primetime.

The bee's championship finals begin at 8 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN.
