CLEVELAND - Starting Tuesday, students in the Cleveland Municipal School district will spend a little longer time in school. The full day schedule will be restored to students in all K-8 schools.
This comes as no surprise to those in the district. CEO Eric Gordon told Board members at the Dec. 4 board meeting the district’s ability to add 50 minutes to the school day in January was due to passage of the Nov. 6 levy.
“Thanks to the generosity of the people of Cleveland, we can restore programs, return 50 minutes to the school day and develop a much-needed plan for math and reading intervention,” said Gordon.
He said that about $6.8 million in tax dollars would be used to restore the lost time.
The district is now working on other immediate goals, such as increasing exposure to art, music and physical education in as many schools as possible and add reading, math and science intervention where determined.
