CLEVELAND - Police are investigating after a student was injured at a Cleveland Schools bus stop Wednesday morning.
According to the report from Cleveland police, a 16-year-old was attacked on East 55th Street near Quincy Avenue, which is right by East Tech High.
A spokeswoman with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District said it happened after school was over for the day, following an early dismissal.
“He was walking to the bus stop and for no apparent reason four males began to assault him,” the police report said. Up to six juveniles were involved in the attack, which was classified as felonious assault. The victim, who has a mental disability with the capacity of a 7-year-old, was taken from the scene by paramedics before police arrived.
The Cleveland Police Department, CMSD security and Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority police were all at the scene moments after it happened. The CMSD spokeswoman said protocol is for all three agencies to be on patrol during dismissal times.
According to a supervisor at MetroHealth Medical Center, the student is listed in serious condition, but would not elaborate further on injuries. The police report said he suffered a cut to his lip and that an X-ray would be performed to check for other injuries.
