CLEVELAND - Officers were called out to Whitney Young Elementary School on Friday for a report of a rape.
When authorities arrived, they were met by Cleveland Metropolitan School District's investigator who informed police that there was a sexual assault reported between two students.
The students were reportedly involved in inappropriate sexual activity in the restroom.
A CMSD spokeswoman said parents of both students identified in the allegation were immediately notified of the incident. Authorities were also promptly called out to investigate, the spokeswoman said.
"While local authorities continue their investigation of the incident, school administrators have remained in contact with both families, providing information on academic and emotional supports available for the students," explained Roseann Canfora, the district communications officer.
Details of the incident are not being released.
The investigation is ongoing.
