CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Metropolitan School District will restore the full school day because the levy passed in November.
The issue was discussed during Tuesday’s board meeting. The 15-mil levy was the district’s first to pass in 16 years.
“Thanks to the generosity of the people of Cleveland, we can restore programs, return 50 minutes to the school and develop a much-needed plan for math and reading intervention,” said CMSD CEO Eric Gordon, in a news release on Tuesday.
Classes will be 50 minutes longer staring in January. Over the next month, the district will work to reschedule classes and lunch times, as well as reroute busses, Gordon said.
The restoration of the school also mean more time will be spent on art, music and physical education.
CMSD will post the new start and end times for grades kindergarten through eighth grade on their website.
