CLEVELAND - It came down to a nail-biting final grab bag round, with one Akron school being crowned the "Academic Challenge" champion.

Firestone ended the game with 570 points, edging out both Beachwood and Hawken, to become the 44th season champ.

Firestone's championship team consisted of Captain Bijan Pakdel, Sterling Shriber II and Katie Gilbert. Firestone's adviser was Alison Seefeldt.

A grant for $6,000, in the form of a check, was awarded to the school from Westfield Insurance.

Beachwood and Hawken also received grant money for their second and third place finishes.

The three teams qualified for the championship finale after placing in the top three during the regular season.

In all, 78 teams competed for the chance to be crowned our season champion.

Congratulations, Firestone!
