NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio - Getting into a cool pool is a great way to get rid of that sticky, hot feeling during these heat waves.

But some pool experts say a lack of time and a tough economy are making some pool owners take a health risk they shouldn't. Cutting back on the proper chemicals because they cost money is one way to risk growing bacteria in your pool. And if you don't spend the time to test the water daily, that's another risk.

Bacteria grows very quickly in pool water, if it's not maintained properly. Charlie Hughes from Ohio Pools and Spas in North Olmsted said you have to do several main things to keep the bacteria out, so your family can go in.

Use a daily sanitizer, like chlorene. Shock the pool with chemicals and monitor acid levels. That combination with a good filter will keep your pool safe and healthy for the entire summer.

Health experts from Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital said if you get a bacteria in your system, it can give you a wide range of ailments, from stomach problems to even a blood infection. If you think you may have a bacterial infection from being in the water, get to the doctor right away.
