AKRON, Ohio - The Akron Fire Department confirms two men were killed and one seriously injured in a late night car crash.

It was a horrific scene early Thursday morning in Akron’s Kenmore neighborhood. Two damaged vehicles involved in a crash were barely recognizable.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday at W. Wilbeth Road near the intersection of Ninth Street. Crews were still cleaning up five hours later.

Akron Fire Captain Bill Howe said two men were killed, driver Richard Ratliff, 34, and his passenger Anthony Mook, 24, when the Chevy Caprice they were in collided with a Ford Bronco. The man driving the Bronco, a 39-year-old, was severely injured and taken to Akron General Medical Center.

The impact was so strong that a section of the front bumper of the Bronco was stuck in the front of the Caprice's mangled mess.

Howe said one of the vehicles must have gone left of center.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
