CLEVELAND - If you're looking for a second Christmas in January, Tuesday is the first day you can e-file your taxes.
If you made less than $57,000, you qualify to file for free with the new IRS e-file program. If you are a low income taxpayer, member of the military or a senior citizen, you may be eligible to have your taxes done for free. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance shops will be set up in libraries and military bases.
This year, you are going to get an extra two days to file because April 15 is on a Sunday and April 16 is Emancipation Day in Washington, D.C. That means the deadline isn’t until April 17.
The IRS said the average refund processing time for electronic returns is 10 business days. It takes 12 to 16 weeks to process paper returns.
To find a site near you, call 1-800-906-9887. When you go to file, bring your IDs, W-2s and all documents to show any dependents you may claim.
Remember, the sooner you file means the sooner you'll get your refund.
