Some outlets run low on flu vaccine, but Board of Health says no shortage

PARMA, Ohio - The Cuyahoga County Board of Health reports northeast Ohio has an adequate supply of the flu vaccine, even though demand has increased sharply in the past several weeks.

Board of Health Commissioner Terry Allan believes there will be more than enough doses of flu vaccine to deal with the growing number of cases that are filling local emergency rooms.

"Over 150 million doses have been made available in the U.S.," said Allan. "Now you can get a flu vaccine just about anywhere, at your doctor's office, here at the Board of Health, even your neighborhood drug store."

However, in some cases residents may have to do a little searching for their flu shot.

NewsChannel5 confirmed the Target Pharmacy in Avon has been out of flu vaccine for the past week, and it's not clear when it will be back in stock.

Meanwhile, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health is offering free flu shots to children, and teens under the age of 19, at its flu clinics.

"If you are an adult over the age on 19, and you do not have the ability to pay because of financial concerns, you can get vaccinated here at the Board of Health," said Allan.
