PARMA, Ohio - John Rich is just one of many who are thankful for the mild winter we've had thus far.

Rich is especially grateful because of a hole in the vinyl siding of his home. Rich reports it's a hole he's had to live with for more than three months.

The hole in the house was created back in early November, after panels of siding started to blow off of a section of the home above the garage. Rich wasn't worried about the problem at first because he just paid Patriot Roofing and Siding $6,000 to install the new siding, the job came with a 15-year written warranty.

But Rich reported weeks rolled by with no results, and he claims multiple phone calls to the contractor produced little action. The missing siding has allowed a section of his home to be exposed to the elements, even though the hole has been temporarily covered with a shabby tarp, duct tape and a few nails.

"Look at it, would you want this?" Rich said. "Pay $6,000 and have all this hanging out."

Daughter Lisa Rich showed 5 On Your Side a folder full of documentation on the case, complete with a detailed call log and receipts for the job.

"Keep your paperwork, keep copies of everything," said Rich "Keep files, you may not like paperwork, but you never know when you're going to need it."

The NewsChannel5 Troubleshooter Unit contacted Patriot Roofing and Siding about this case, and the company responded immediately. The company owner reported he tried to fix the problem weeks ago, and that other attempts to make repairs were delayed because he was unable to get in contact with Rich.

The company pledged the hole would be sealed by Thursday at no charge.

5 On Your Side will follow-up on this case.

"The company did a wonderful job on the roof," said Lisa Rich. "But this siding is very disappointing."
