CANTON, Ohio - Marilyn and Daryl McGuire love to go camping with their family and friends. They use their big Ford F250 truck to move their 1993 Kountry Comfort RV to their camp site every spring.
However, the 2011 camping season started off with a wind storm, causing hundreds of dollars in damage to the retractable awning on their RV. The McGuires took their "summer toy" in for repairs during the second week of May, and the awning repairs were completed in early June.
But the McGuires reported the repair shop informed them that a window on the RV was somehow broken, and the door to their hot water tank went missing during the repair process.
The McGuires cleared the repair shop to fix the window and replace the door, but they reported four weeks went by with no answers as to when they could get their RV back on the road.
"It's kind of upsetting, I've called eight to 10 times," said Daryrl McGuire. "I couldn't get any answers as to when I would get my RV back."
5 On Your Side contacted the repair shop, and the manger responded immediately. The company finished repairs to the McGuire's RV and released it within one hour. The McGuires were also given $200 to follow-up on repairs to the window on their RV.
NewsChannel5 will not name the repair shop in this case, because it appears a lack of communication caused the delays and the company has an outstanding record of service with the Akron Better Business Bureau.
Consumers should rely on references from family or friends when selecting a repair shop for their RV, boat or motorcycle. Do not use the Yellow Pages or a simple online search to pick a repair shop.
Check the repair shop's record of service with the Ohio Attorney General, the BBB or by using consumer review forums online.
