CLEVELAND - If you're into March Madness, this is the weekend to watch sports in high definition. Those crystal clear pictures take up a lot of space on the information super highway and services like high def are causing all the other channels to be bounced around.
Time Warner Cable is sending letters to customers alerting them to changes. The letters state the changes will take effect on or after March 9, but 5 On Your Side has learned the changes won't take effect until at least April 5.
The letter says,” At Time Warner Cable, we’re always working to offer enhanced services like Start Over, Look Back, thousands of On Demand choices, more HD channels and even faster Internet speeds. In order to continue to bring you the best the digital world has to offer, we must utilize our advanced fiber network in the most efficient manner. Sometimes that means changing the way we deliver some of your channels.”
Here's what you can expect: Some of your favorite cable channels will change. You’ll get a new channel lineup in the mail a week before the change. You can also see the latest changes by hitting “Guide” if you have this option on your system. You can also check out the guide online at, TWCGuide.com .
Plus, some channels will no longer be viewable without a digital cable box. This includes Shop NBC, Speed, truTV, and Travel Channel.
"If you currently don't have a box in your house, we will provide you with a digital cable box for 12 months at no additional cost,” Time Warner Cable spokesman Travis Reynolds said.
After the 12-month promotional period, the box will cost $7.99 a month.
“If you have a box in the home, you are not losing anything you will still get those channels," Reynolds said. However, you won’t be able to see all your favorite channels if you don’t have a box in every room. In the room without the box, you will lose Shop NBC, Speed, truTV, and Travel Channel unless you buy a box for that room at $7.99 a month.
The other change impacts NewsChannel5 viewers in Mansfield, Medina, Kent and the greater Akron area. You'll now be able to watch Channel 5 on channel 5. This change will be around April 11.
