CLEVELAND - The Sunday paper used to be a great way to get lots of coupons, but some weeks you don't get very many. Some newspapers no longer have the Red Plum insert. Instead, they are mailed to your home. So, we asked Joe the Coupon Guy how you can maximize your savings when you don't get a lot of coupons delivered every Sunday in the paper.
Your second best option is to print your coupons from an online site like Coupons.com and Coupon Network . Joe likes Coupons.com because there are 100-150 coupons on the site. Typically, you can only print two copies of each coupon. Cookies on your computer track your usage through your IP address.
"They want you to print your own coupons. They want to pass it off to the consumer rather than manufacturers printing the coupons," Joe the Coupon Guy said. "I'd rather them put them in the Sunday paper. It makes it easier."
Printing coupons does take time, and costs you money for ink and paper. Some sites now allow you to load the coupons directly onto your loyalty card rather than printing them. Joe the Coupon Guy says you can do that with Coupon Network. Giant Eagle also offers ecoupons that you can put directly on your loyalty card and are deducted from your total once you swipe the card at checkout.
If you don't want to use the computer, buy a spare paper. The Sun Newspaper is a good alternative and costs just 61-cents at Marc's. If you want more than one Sunday paper, buy it on Monday morning. The Plain Dealer Sunday edition retails for $1.25 on Monday. Just make sure you pick it up early, because they are not available later in the day.
