As time takes its toll, windows in older homes need some attention and a little TLC. And that begs the question, should windows be repaired or replaced?
Updating your home’s old windows is one of the best investments a homeowner can make.
And it’s a trend that’s catching on because it’s less expensive than full window insulation.
“We can put it in your existing frame," said window installer Trent McPhearson. "There's casements, there's double hung. There are companies out there that have real nice windows that involved tearing everything out. But the replacement window is probably the biggest window right now."
If you have an older home that has windows with charm, consider restoring them so your place keeps its personality.
It’s a simple process; the windows are rebuilt from the outside with all new components and not an inconvenience for the homeowner.
Window restorer Ryan Schwartz says, "A lot of the benefits to that is we didn’t even have to take your drapes down in order to do that. Your trim on the inside isn’t altered, your drapes don’t have to come down nor do your blinds have to come down."
When you are trying to determine whether to repair or replace your windows you need to talk to several contractors and find out what they recommend.
If it comes down to you replacing the ropes in your windows or the glass you could potentially refurbish the windows you already have.
If you find that the wood is rotten, then you may have to have it rebuilt. Keep in mind you can still have wood windows rebuilt, you don’t have to go to a vinyl replacement window.
