CLEVELAND - Online retail giant Amazon is preparing for the holidays with an early present for job seekers.

The company announced Tuesday it will hire 50,000 workers for the holiday season.

Amazon currently employs 20,000 people at 40 "fulfillment centers," where the seasonal employees will be placed.

The company said the temporary positions could turn full-time for thousands of workers after the holidays.

Amazon is just one of several big seasonal hiring announcements recently. Macy's, Kohl's and Toys 'R' Us have all announced major holiday hiring plans.

Industry analysts say U.S. retailers have so far announced plans to hire 413,700 holiday workers. That's a five-year high for seasonal hiring.
