DETROIT - Performance, safety and price. Those are the things we're used to considering when shopping for a new car or truck. Fuel efficiency has been added to the list in recent years. Well, it's time to add one more thing -- connectivity.
It's been trickling onto the car scene over the past few years, but at the word "connect" can be found all over the North American International Auto Show in Detroit this year.
Audi has Audi connect, Chrysler has Uconnect. Ford and Chevrolet use different words with Sync and MyLink, but it's the same concept.
Navigation and Bluetooth technology aside, automakers are finding more ways to keep drivers up to date and in touch with the world outside their vehicle, offering everything from real time traffic and weather conditions to news and sports updates and the latest on gas prices. And some are taking it even step further - turning cars into wifi hot spots for computers, tablets and smartphones.
Connectivity is one of the ideas Chevrolet is banking on in the new concept cars it unveiled at the auto show, the Code 130R and the Tru 140S.
Dodge's big unveiling, the 2013 Dodge Dart, also boasts the some of the latest in connection technology-- as well as a name that is a blast from the past.
