CLEVELAND - If you ever forgot to close your garage door or had a toilet overflow while at work, Angie’s List has an easy way to save yourself the worry.

A home automation system allows you to monitor almost anything at your house. It can turn lights on and off and checks the temperature in your home; even check the security system. This can be done from your computer, your tablet and even your smartphone.

Home automation systems are typically significant investment, but could help you save money in the long run.

If you are thinking about putting a home automation system in and you are concerned with the cost, check with your homeowner's insurance. What you might not realize is that there may be discounts available to you on your homeowner's insurance because you have one. So be sure you are understanding the full costs and benefits before installing.

Lots of people are tech savvy these days, so there are packages you can install yourself. But if you prefer to hire someone to do it for you, make sure to check the contractor’s credentials.
