What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care provides many of the same services as hospice, but tailored for someone who may not be ready for hospice care or does not choose it.

Patients with chronic pain or debilitating symptoms can find relief from pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite and difficulty sleeping.

Palliative care gives patients and families the support they need to carry on with daily life. Both hospice and palliative care take a comprehensive approach to serious illness that focuses on the physical, psychological, spiritual, and social needs of the patient. Respect for the patient’s culture, beliefs and values is an essential component.
