CLEVELAND - Flying the friendly skies is getting a lot more fun at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
On Monday, the terminal is holding its grand opening celebration for its new Airmall.
At 76,000 square feet, the Airmall features 55 stores and is part of a multi-year project to transform the look and feel of the terminal for flyers.
Specialty shops include Bluwire, I-Tech Xperience, Johnson & Murphy, Swatch, Taxco Sterling, and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Museum Store.
Restaurants include Banjoe’s Café, Brewer’s Alley, Caffe Siena, Currito, Dunkin Donuts, Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant, Great Lakes Brewing Company, Green Leaf’s, McAlister’s Deli, Obrycki’s, UFood, and Villa Fresh Italian Kitchen.
Cleveland hopes the new concessions will double retail sales figures at the airport over a 10 year period, as well as increase the number of concession jobs.
The renovations will cost $8.4 million. The project is halfway through the renovation.
The Airmall comes at an interesting time in the travel industry because travel is down at Hopkins and consumers are seeing sticker shock with ticket prices and baggage fees.
But Hopkins guarantees it offers competitive prices for items bought at the new Airmall. Some examples include:
If you think any of these prices is too high compared to similar stores around the airport, you can call 1-800-ITS-FAIR and file a complaint.
