ST. LOUIS - The Urbana Student Missions Conference starts today in St. Louis.
Urbana 2012 Director Tom Lin says the 16,000 registered attendees will learn about missionary opportunities around the world.
Lin says that can involve preaching the gospel in a foreign country or ministering to the poor closer to home, so missionaries with a variety of skills and professions are needed.
Urbana is sponsored once every three years by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. During the second half of the 20th Century, the conferences were held at the University of Illinois in Urbana, but were moved to St. Louis in 2006.
This year's conference will wrap up with a worship service ending at midnight on New Year's Eve.
