RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The honorary chairman of this Thursday's National Day of Prayer says Christians should pray for their own revival before that of the nation.
In his Sunday sermon at Southern California's Harvest Christian Fellowship, Pastor Greg Laurie said America is "going downhill fast," toward either "judgment or revival."
But he noted that in the Bible, God says, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
Laurie will be in Washington Thursday for a National Day of Prayer event on Capitol Hill. Other prayer gatherings are scheduled in churches and public places nationwide.
The National Day of Prayer was established by Congress and signed into law in 1952. It's observed each year on the first Thursday in May.
