MONTREAT, N.C. - Gospel soloist George Beverly Shea has just celebrated his 103rd birthday.
That's ten years older than the Rev. Billy Graham, with whom he performed at evangelistic crusades for 60 years.
Shea, the son of a Methodist minister, was born in Canada on Feb. 1, 1909.
He and Graham began appearing at crusades together in 1947. They still live close to each other in Montreat, N.C.
Spokeswoman Melany Ethridge said Shea planned to celebrate his birthday quietly Wednesday with friends and family at home. Ethridge said he wants everyone to know that "his heart feels as joyful as that of a child."
Shea has said his secret to long life is "the Lord, a good wife and coffee."
